1085; My First Teacher's Day

Bismillah.

Never have I ever thought that I would be appreciated as a teacher. Whenever anyone told me that I should try being in the education field I say, nuh-uh; anything but not teaching. Ask all my close friends, I am just bad at teaching. When people ask me questions that requires me to use my brain, most of the time I go 'Try asking Erna' or 'I think Hadina knows. Ask her.' Hahaha. But sometimes I do feel bad about doing that to Erna and Hadina so I do teach them by myself hehe :p

So last Wednesday night, I went to class as usual feeling meh when suddenly a student handed me this-

My first Teacher's Day gift

Trust me I was so happy my mood boosted up from meh to fireworks-in-the-background that I went high pitched 'Eeeeeeeekkk terima kasihhhh'. Hahaha. In the one- hour class it was twice that I silently peeked into the gift while feeling all flowery (read: berbunga- bunga, trolol) inside.

On Friday, I received another gift- awwww yisssss a jar of biscuits. So legit sedap guys, not gonna lie. Not gonna share too. Okay okay, apart from being happy that it was food, I was so so touched coz I felt like I've done nothing to be receiving such appreciation. I mean, I only teach these kids 1 to 2 hours a week and it's only a few months that we've been together... and few months left to be together...

I don't know what future has for me but this might be the first and last time that I would be able to be appreciated as a teacher, on Teacher's Day. Gahhhh so gonna miss these kids laterrrrr.

It's way late for a Teacher's Day post but since I'm writing a post about it, I would like to thank all my teachers in Tadika Anak Soleh for encouraging me to wear my tudung in primary school, teachers in SK Taman Kota Kulai for helping me balance my education and sports, teachers in Sekolah Tun Fatimah for always reminding me what real life is all about and lecturers in UiTM Seremban 3 for teaching me responsibilities. Not to forget, my very first teachers, Ibu and Ayah for always giving me support in every thing I do. Happy Teacher's Day :)

1081; Part Time Cikgu, Part Time Zoo Keeper

Bismillah.

7y/o student/ Me

S : /cranky/
M: Haa mana dinosaur awak? Meh ajak dia belajar sekali dengan kita.
S : /takes out all his friends/

Which explains the zoo on the study table :')

Trust me this is only a small portion of his toys. Everytime I enter the class, he would always have a new toy in his hands to show to me. Tell me who hasn't joined our class?- we have snakes, godzillas, lizards, turtles, dolphins and many more I tell ya.

Everytime he lose focus, I'd be mimicking loud dinosaur voices or high- pitched dolphin sound saying 'Kenapa awak tak nak belajar ni? Tengok, saya pun nak belajar dengan cikgu'. But then he'd spend another generous amount of time distracting me with describing T-rex and Godzilla. So smart this boy. I am silently shaking my head to myself (don't be deceived, don't be deceived).

Tak kisahlah macam mana gaya pun, asalkan awak nak belajar, cikgu okay je :p

1079; Personal Financial Planning

Bismillah.

Never have I ever thought managing your own finance would be this hard. I mean, it haven't got to that 'really hard' phase where you have to pay for someone else's expenses but for my kind of stress level, IT IS HARD. Well I hope at least you get what I was trying to say by the end of this sentence.

I targeted a lil bit too high on my savings each month because I'm not really sure how ugly my future would look like so Ive been working two part time jobs for months already now- a teacher & a graphic designer. Okay guys the 'graphic designer' thingy sounds way too cool for me but really, I just make typography portraits like those you can see on the right sidebar of this blog.

I teach at 5-7 different places, hold at least 9 classes per week and last month I got up to 10 orders for my typography portraits and if you total up all the numbers I've written only in this paragraph you would probably hear loud KACHINGGG but really guys, truth hurts. I'll use up half of the money I gain only on buying household necessities thus making my pocket money thin oredi by the time it's mid month.

Ive already gotten into that phase where wastage is not anymore a small issue. I get annoyed when people don't finish the rice that I cooked or when the last person to leave the table forgot to put the remaining dinner dish inside the fridge and it turns stale the next day. I do my work in dark and sweat coz I think it'd be better to save the electricity by skipping the lights and fans. I don't turn my head twice on clothes that I like so I won't bring anything new to my closet. Basically anything that lessen the probability of money going outta pocket, I'll commit to that.

I was a JPA scholar during my diploma years so every semester I was given a good amount of money to spend on things. In a way, I am grateful for my stingy attitude back in the days coz even after finishing college, I still have savings that are pretty impressive and even up till now, it has been months since I last withdraw any money from the ATM for myself. But again, thinking about the future always get me butterflies in the stomach coz I don't know what they will look like so let's just pray everything's gonna be pretty.

1077; We Had a Good 5-Minutes-Straight Laugh

Bismillah.

One 10-year-old kept peeking over his friend's workbook to get answers for the exercise I gave them so I advised them:
"Eh senang2 je meniru. Kesian kawan awak dah penat2 buat jalan kerja panjang sampai satu muka surat untuk dapat jawapan, sekali awak tengok je jawapan dia lepas tu bulatkan jawapan awak."
I don't see anything funny but then they laughed at my words for a good 5-minutes. I wasn't sure if they're the ones who are  'mudah terhibur' or the fact that I was born funny. I second the latter.

p/s: Idk why I couldn't watch the video above via mobile but if you want to watch, best do it with pc:)

1076; On Fridays, I Am The Student.

Bismillah.

(12y/o student/Me)

S : Cikgu tahu pokemon tak?
M: Tahu.

S : Cikgu suka pokemon mana?
M: Emm.. pikachu.

S : Cikgu tahu tak pikachu tu pokemon jenis apa?
M: Cikgu tak tengok pun cerita tu jadi cikgu tak tahu sangat.

S : Pokemon ada banyak jenis cikgu. Ada electric, water, fire, physic, ghost, grass, banyak cikgu banyak! Pokemon ni nanti dia ada tahap dia boleh besar kalau tekan satu butang ni. Cikgu tahu godzilla? Godzilla ada banyak tahap. Tahap pertama dia kecik sangat. *goes on and on and on*
M: *nods and says lots of oohs and ahhs*

S : Cikgu zina tu apa?
M:*facepalm*

Basically this is my every Friday in one and a half hour. I don't mind, in fact I loved listening to all their stories and imaginations. They are usually the ones that made me drove back home with smiles, and a white board full of drawings. Today the 7-year-old sat on my lap while drawing. I felt so close to the kids already.

1075; I Almost Made A Boy Cry

Bismillah.

(7y/o student/ Me)

Cikgu, Lego murah kan?

"Ish, mahal la!"

Murah la! /starting to have tears in his eyes/

"Oh murah2 hehe cikgu mana tahu"

p/s: I haven't mentioned in this blog yet, but I have been teaching for almost three months now. I would really want to tell you about how I love love love my first job but me being me, I procrastinate way too much these days. I'll probably keep each posts short and sweet just so I can post it right away every time, with no no procrastination. And hey, look at my new blog label!
